FAQ

Participate in the OWee

  • What is OWee, and when does it take place?

OWee stands for “Orientation Week.” During this week, you’ll get to know a lot about the student city of Delft. You’ll be introduced to the student clubs, take a tour of the city, visit special spots on campus, and make new friends.

The Digital Kickstart of OWee is on August 11. The in-person OWee will then take place from Sunday, August 16, through Thursday, August 20. Check here forthe program!

  • Is OWee really that important?

Yes, it’s incredibly important that you feel at home in the city where you’ll be studying. In just one week, there’s plenty to discover about what Delft has to offer. Plus, you’ll make new friends here! During this week, everyone can find their own place in Delft.

  • How much does the OWee cost?

Participation costs €98.52, which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner; access to all activities, student, sports, and cultural clubs; a bag; swag; and more.

  • I don't know a single person who's going to study in Delft. Is it still worth participating in the OWee?

Then OWee is just for you! This week, you’ll follow the program with your OWee group. This group consists of about ten incoming freshmen who are in exactly the same situation. They’re all new to Delft. So if you want to get to know people, this week is the perfect way to kick off this new chapter in your life! There’s always someone in the group you’ll click with!

  • Suppose you're not into the whole college scene—do you still have to participate in OWee?

Yes, we definitely recommend it! OWee isn’t just about parties and student associations—it’s also about getting to know Delft. We’re organizing a campus tour, a scavenger hunt through the city of Delft, an information fair, and a sports and culture day. In addition, there’s also a more low-key evening program, just in case partying isn’t really your thing. You’ll meet a lot of people this week. Whether you end up joining a student association or not, it’s always nice to start your college life with friends around you!

  • When will I receive more information about OWee 2026?

After you register, you’ll receive a confirmation. In August, you’ll then receive a letter with more information about the week. Once you’ve registered, you’ll have access to the OWee app before the OWee begins, which contains information about studying in Delft, the program, and much more. This way, you can start looking forward to all the fun activities that await you!

  • Can I participate in the OWee if I'm under 18?

Yes, you are definitely allowed to participate in OWee if you are under 18. You will receive a special “18” wristband. Please note that standard Dutch laws and regulations apply throughout the week. You can find more information about OWee’s alcohol policy under the heading “Alcohol and Substance Policy” on page 12 of the BINAS.

  • I’m going to attend a university of applied sciences in Delft. Am I eligible to participate in the OWee?

Yes, of course! The OWee is for all incoming students who are moving to Delft to live or study.

  • Can I participate in the OWee if I’m injured or have a physical disability?

Yes, absolutely! Most activities are not physically demanding, and the campus is wheelchair accessible. If you have any questions or are interested in off-campus activities, please contact us at info@owee.nl or 015‑2786709 so we can accommodate your needs.

  • Part of my program is in another city. Should I still participate in the OWee?

Some courses at Delft are taught partly in Leiden or Rotterdam. EL CID (Leiden) takes place from August 10–14, 2026, and Eureka Week (Rotterdam) from August 17–19. It is possible to attend both, but due to scheduling conflicts, you may need to choose the city where you will spend the most time.

  • Where will I be staying during OWee?

You can arrange your own place to stay, or have OWee do it for you for €106 for the entire week, with the option to specify a preference for a (student) house. We strongly recommend staying in Delft so you don’t have to commute during the week.

  • Is the OWee a hazing ritual?

No, the OWee is not a hazing event. Participation in all activities is entirely voluntary.

  • When will I receive my mentor group number?

You’ll receive your group number via text message the day before OWee! You can use this number to view your personal schedule in the OWee App.

You can already view a temporary schedule in the app. When the app asks for a group number, you should skip this pop-up. Don’t forget to enter your number later!

  • I am a vegetarian or have special dietary needs. Will that be taken into account?

All meals are vegetarian, and any allergies can be noted at the time of registration; special meals are available for those with gluten, lactose, and nut allergies, among others.

  • Where can I find the lost and found items?

Anything that is found is taken to the information desk. You can ask there about any specific item you may have lost. If the information desk is closed, lost and found items are kept in the auditorium. After the OWee, lost and found items will be placed in the auditorium.

  • What should I do if I encounter inappropriate behavior (on the TU Delft campus)?

In case of an emergency, call 015-2788888 on the TU Delft Campus.

If you experience inappropriate behavior such as bullying, aggression, (sexual) harassment, stalking, or discrimination, you can contact TU Delft’s confidential advisor for inappropriate behavior. These contacts are always non-binding, confidential, and your anonymity is guaranteed.

The confidential advisor for inappropriate behavior, Carin van der Hor, can be reached by phone at 06-40016234, and by email at carin.vanderhor@bmwvoorelkaar.nl

Information about Freshman Weekend (EJW)

  • What is a Freshman Weekend (EJW), and when is my Freshman Weekend?

A freshman weekend usually takes place the weekend before the OWee and is organized by the academic societies. Here are all the dates for the freshman weekends for all degree programs.

During this weekend, you’ll mainly get to know your fellow students. Usually, you’ll also form an OWee group with friends you made during the freshman weekend. If you can’t attend the freshman weekend but do participate in the OWee, we’ll make sure you’re placed in a random OWee group with fellow students.

  • What is the difference between the freshman weekend and OWee?

The Freshman Weekend is intended for the new students in your program; it is organized by the student association and usually takes place outside of Delft. The OWee begins after this weekend. During the OWee, you’ll get to know students from other programs, as well as the city, campus, and student associations, through all kinds of fun activities!

Information about clubs

  • How can I figure out which student club I might like?

By participating in OWee, you’ll have the chance to find out which club is the right fit for you.

  • What is the trial period?

This is a period during which new members of a student association get to know each other and the association. The specifics and duration of this period vary by association, but it usually begins immediately after the OWee. If you plan to join an association, it’s a good idea to keep the week after the OWee free. Between the OWee and the orientation period, you can go home and swap out your OWee gear for items you’ll need during the orientation period.

  • When can you join a club?

The OWee is designed to help you get to know all the clubs and sign up for the one that appeals to you. Some clubs have a membership cap; if you want to join one of these, don’t wait too long. You can often only sign up for a club during the OWee, and this is possible both during the day and in the evening. If you want to become a member but can’t attend the OWee, please contact the club directly.

Information for Mentors

  • I signed up as a mentor pair. When will I find out if I’ve been selected to be a mentor for OWee?

Before OWee, you must complete the online mentor training. This is required if you want to be a mentor. If you want to become a mentor but haven’t registered yet, you can do sohere.

  • Is the mentor training mandatory?

Yes, the mentor training is mandatory. Unfortunately, if you don't complete it, you won't be able to become a mentor. You'll need to take a quiz at the end to verify that you've completed the training.

  • What is expected of me as a mentor?

As a mentor, the three most important tasks are:

    - To support new students.
    - To foster social cohesion.
    - And to provide them with information about studying in Delft.
